Cartagena de Indias is Going to Host the Next Summits of the Americas
According to Cartagena de Indias Mayor, Judith Pinedo, she declared that according to President Alvaro Uribe, Cartagena de Indias is going to be next host to the Summits of the Americas in 2013. The declaration came days after the local media gave an almost certain prediction that Cartagena was going to be next host, they were right; and is really a joy that in 2013, one of the most pristine cities in the world and one of the most famous is going to be the place where the summit is going to be held.
But people of the city are being skeptical about the development of the meeting,; because of many problems like the construction of the Transcaribe. Some people say that the summit is not going to bring any good value to the city, other people are saying that probably the city is not ready because it lacks of security, others are expressing their concerns because every time there is a political or major event in the city much of the critical streets are shut down to ensure the security of the important visitors (and the city lacks of an efficient infrastructure in roads and paths). Maybe the selection of the city was only because of the historical values and the popularity that has worldwide; but there are other cities in Colombia that are well equipped to handle events like this one, events that if a street is need to be shut down is not going to cause problems of any kind to the population, but the decision is already taken and the only thing the Cartageneros can do now is to wait until 2013 to wait on any changes are made or if the controversial project of the Transcaribe is finished to see if the meeting can be done without any inconvenients.
