Gasparilla, Mardi Grass and the Carnaval of Cartagena

Published by glequericac at 9:32 pm under Culture Edit This

What the Gasparilla, the Mardi Grass and the Carnaval of Cartagena have in common?, well disorder and pollution are the main denominators of these three “celebrations”, I have live the Gasparilla and the Carnaval of Cartagena, and I can say that I not returning to both parties, because both promote disorder and insecurity. With Gasparilla I didn’t saw any differences with the Carnaval of Cartagena or the Mardi Grass, every single one of them were awful, vulgar and pointless, I don’t get the tradition of Gasparilla, it celebrate the life of a pirate!, I don’t get it! (sarcasm), and the celebration is observed fully as how pirates lived, in a mess. The worst is that the Channel Side is a beautiful residential area, that after the end of the festival ends extremely dirty, yes I wish to have a photo with me, but I am not fan of taking anything valuable to those kind of events.

The best idea I can give is to move the Gasparilla parade to other side of the city, and not glorify too much the life of a pirate, because at the end Jose Gaspar was another criminal.
