The end of the Hummer?

Published by glequericac under Culture Edit This

This is why I never like Hummers During the late 90’s and early 00’s the Hummer is going to be remember as the vehicle of the powerfuls and celebrities who liked to brag about their status and didn’t respected a dime of the planet; but now there is a huge chance that these awful monsters are going to be a memory from the past and will be used again only by the military; is true due the economical depression Hummers aren’t being sold as they used in the past decade; this a light of shine in these moments of crisis and we the enviromentalists we couldn’t be happiert that these ghaulish vehicles are going to be in the history books and/or with the military as they should be. The worse about these vehicles is not even the damage they do to the enviroment, but a take a look at the photo and you will see that these kind of vehicles are weapons that can make a lot of damage with road rage driver in the wheel; I hope that the Obama administration knows what to do and put these awful things in the past.

The Assasins of the Khmer Rouge

Published by glequericac under Culture, Politics Edit This

This note posted in the Tampa Tribune is interesting because after almost 30 years the Khmer Rouge leaders (not Pot Pol, he is dead since 1998) are going to be judged by the crimes they committed against humanity. Is incredible to think that assassins like that, responsible for the dead of more than 1.7 millions of Cambodians hasn’t been judged until now, what people in the international courts had been thinking about these people, and why it took a while?, nobody understand it really and the question that is on many people mind is why only 5 people of a large group are going to be judged? We don’t get it.

30 MILLS FOR INFORMATION OF DRUG LORDS

Published by glequericac under Politics Edit This

So Mexico is offering a lot of juice, $30 Mils for the capture and arrest of several drugs lords, that’s what the government said today; but don’t feel those are $30.000.000 PESOS, not dollars, is only like US$2.000.000 probably less if you give information to help capture people from the deadliest gangs in Mexico (the Sinaloa and the Gulf cartels). For that amount of money just to risk your life for a bunch of probably the most sanguinary individuals that are now worldwide, is not worth it; maybe for a Bounty Hunter who wants to pay his monthly payments is ok, but still is like a suicidal mission that probably many people won’t do it unless the sum of money is raised.

OBAMA NOT SO GOOD WITH $$$$

Published by glequericac under Uncategorized Edit This

And the analyst were right, Obama’s deficit plan is doom, why is doom? Because if is going to take place then the country is going to be deepen in debts and right now the country can be placed in a bigger debt because there is no financial backup to do it, so fun is to know this, but the best is that congress is slowly giving the back to the Mr. President of USA because they see that most of his plans are not sustainable and they can put in jeopardy the national economy in a worst place. Sure go ahead and flame but I will keep my POV as is a free nation.

The Seminoles Ripple Effect (1)

Published by glequericac under Culture, Politics Edit This

Reading today 03/21/2009 The Tampa Tribune edition, I saw an article that grabbed my attention, about an negative effect that the Seminoles’ left in economy. Is something weird but at some extent I think is true; as a sovereign nation they are exempt from taxes and they have their own rules in their territories, but one major truth I see, at least in Tampa is that their Hard Rock Hotel don’t give a chance to other business to prosper properly, they literally suck out the economy out from local business in their area, specially minority businesses, because nobody can’t compete with them. I know is strange that I speak about this without posting photos but I will try to do it next week as a continuation to this entry, but in the meantime read this , probably it will help you to understand better my idea.

Not Cool on a Hot Spring

Published by glequericac under Culture, Politics Edit This

fjih48zf2nobnlsmedium.jpg Ok, so is not going to be a cool spring because Hillsbourough county (Tampa – Florida) is on a drought and is not cool, and as we were expecting restrictions are seen in the entire county (although restrictions are not applied for unincorporated areas) and it will last until enough rain cease the drought. The first restriction to be know is that water sprinkles are banned from the entire county, you can’t use them and if you want to water your garden you must do it by hand (but that doesn’t mean people aren’t paying attention to the restriction). Is not going to be a cool spring and let’s hope by summer this drought of water ends.

Meatless Meals in High Schools

This is cool in my opinion, because on my high school days this wasn’t possible and there weren’t any alternative meals to students who don’t eat meat. Now the history has taken another twist and in Florida Pasco County more schools are serving meatless dishes to students who don’t eat meat, Is really cool because this shows a little bit of more tolerance in our high school system to the different dietary regulations. You can check this article at the Tampa Tribune, where there is explained this new step to accept different customs and traditions that are in the wide school student population.

At least there is some justice in this world

Published by glequericac under Uncategorized Edit This

nutz.jpgIs good to know that a monster like Joseph Fritz is going to have what he deserves, a life in prison and probably some inmate will do the same thing he did to his daughter; his going to get raped because in prison the lowest inmates are the rapist. Is good to see that there is some justice in this world because is really nasty to thing that a father can do that to his own daughter, we can hope that someday events like this will be just things of the past and not something terrible that is in our present.

TAMPA BIG CAT RESCUE

Big Cat Promo ImageAs a Tampa guy and as a Floridian, I always try to search different cool spots and different organizations that are in my city; I know I can give money too much because I am another of the countless victims of recession, but I always try to help in any way I can. One of those organizations I found recently was the Tampa Big Cat Rescue a really great organization located in town and one that helps wild cats like Lion and Tigers who had been victims of abuse or captivity in the hands of private owners. The organization held wild cats, not domesticated ones so if you are in a tour never ever touch the cages or violate any of the rules because the consequences could be lethal.

The Big Cat Rescue is an nonprofit educational sanctuary, they depend on donations made from the public, and I think is a place that deserves every single penny for help because they are an amazing labor with exotic animals that is not common today. A last note, according to the Tampa Tribune, if you live in Florida, there is going to an amnesty day for all the owners of exotic animals who don’t want their “exotic” pets, the day is going to be at the Miami Metro Zoo , and information regarding this event can be found in the zoo webpage.

The redefinition of America: The Assimilation Process of an Alien or Learning to Live in a New Environment.

What makes an American?, so many things, but one aspect that is on what is an American? Are the links to his past and that their ancestors were immigrants at one point, and calling themselves pure American is a simple fallacy (not to say bullshit) because the real Americans are the Native Americans the rest of us, are immigrants or decedents of immigrants, so at the end there is no reason to be racist or xenophobic with newly immigrant.

american-flag-2a.jpg

Is interesting to see that immigrants face a process of assimilation at certain degree, they have to adapt to their new home but as well to new difficulties that are new home, and they do the dirty jobs that no citizen wants to do. One changeling aspect in the redefinition of America is found in the education system where there is more diversity than before, you can see students from everywhere and with different ideologies, is not difficult to spot more politic involved this days, since the 60’s and 70’s where people used to be more outspoken about their belief, also is interesting with all the wide variety of students there is an addition of cultural diversity, to the national culture.

But there is one problem with many students that arrive in America, they are learning English for the first time and schools following the policy of no child left behind they must accept them and help them achieve their goals, except there are some people who oppose at this because they say they shouldn’t receive any education at all if they are not known with the language; other people are more worse and say that undocumented people shouldn’t receive education at all as they are taking resources that could be destined to citizens; but those people forgot that this country was made based on immigrant efforts and this new wave of immigrants want to make themselves better persons and want to improve more their country they call home.
