Proposition 2 trough the eyes of a Colombian Guy
Hello to all,
This is my first entry on my new blog, Gus In The Real Life, trough this blog I want to expose more of my philosophies as well how a newly immigrant to the United States sees and feel the life in the country, I’ve been here for 10 months and I have seen a lot and learned a lot, it has been an amazing experiences that I wouldn’t change it. To introduce a little more about me I do not consider myself Republican or Democrat, probably I could fit in something in between, but due my education as well upbringings my opinions tend to be like cold is to heat.
As my first topic I choose to highly controversial proposition number two, is the same as proposition number eight in California but this is applied in the Florida territory; by know you have probably heard everything you have to hear about this controversial topic, yes the country is divided by this, but thinking in a radical way this could be a social progress in terms of equality but the reality is that America is not prepared to accept the term marriage within the gay and lesbian community, is quite a complicated problem but still simple to analyze there is still hate, I know the answer sounds quite shallow but is true, there is hate and prejudice people still have an approach as the one before WW2, I know in some parts African Americans are still discriminated, and Caucasian individuals will see them with certain disdain.
So what can we do with this?, what can we do with legalizing the gay marriage?, people are fighting for equality at any cost but it seems to be a difficult battle with any victory soon and just short terms winnings, and even beyond my explanation the issue is way more complex to be explain it in just a few words; we know due some cultural customs we see the marriage as the union between a man and a woman, well also that is the semantic meaning and society won’t accept the difference with an ease, but also due some cultural connection as we speak about insurance the costs of the insurances will raise because due the social norms will be broken, that is one of the possibilities that could happen.
Too bad that I can’t vote, because I would vote No because is discrimination, a similar kind of discrimination Africans suffered in the 50’s, we can’t let the entropy principle to repeat, we can’t let history to repeat again but I guess this is just the opinion of a radical thinker.
